"Asking your neighbors to swap their old, polluting stuff for electric stuff can be uncomfortable. But even more uncomfortable? The thought of our kids breathing in carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide, or carcinogenic hydrocarbons from a nearby mower or leaf blower.
A research team at Edmunds compared how a two stroke gas-powered leaf blower and a Ford pickup truck release these toxic gases. The results show the leaf blower spewing seven times the nitrous oxide (which causes smog), 13.5 times the carbon monoxide, and nearly 300 times the hydrocarbons as the pickup!
As parents, we wouldn’t want our kids anywhere near the exhaust of a giant pickup truck. So why not steer away from gas-powered leaf blowers, especially when our kids are playing in the yard next door?
We created a simple, shareable video to let your neighbors know just how harmful these blowers can be. The more you share it on places like Nextdoor or Facebook, the more you can help spread the word. Without, you know, having to actually SAY anything."
